This November, students at Richard Mann Elementary will have a half day and early dismissal for “Student-Led Conferences.”
Unlike traditional Parent-Teacher Conferences, “Student-Led Conferences” keep the students not only in the room for the discussion, but as the leaders of it. Prior to these meetings with parents/guardians, students and teachers collaborate to prepare the discussion to showcase what they believe are the student’s strengths and areas for growth. These conferences can help families understand what learning looks like for their student, and has also been found to lead to greater family involvement in their child’s education, increased student engagement and ownership of their school experiences, and helpful in teaching students to become “future-ready” by allowing them to practice reflection, goal-setting, progress monitoring, and presentation skills.
