Girls Varsity Swimming Finishes Strong

The Gananda-Wayne Girls Varsity Swim team is showing a strong finish as they close in on the end of their 2024 Fall season. Under the coaching of Dani Richards, Jonathan Schwandt and Joel Freeman, the team is carrying an impressive 8-2-1 record for the season. 

 

On October 11th, the team beat Palmyra-Macedon and took home their first-ever Finger Lakes League title. Helping to clinch the win were performances by Sydney R. in the 200 IM (2:31.56) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:16.04), Haley C. in the 50 Freestyle (26.40) and 100 Freestyle (59.50). Natalie S. won the 500 (6:30.01), Emma C. took first the 100 Backstroke (1:10.77), and Gianna C. scored first in diving. In total, Gananda took first place in 9 of 12 events. 

 

Then, on October 19th, the team won first place at the Finger Lakes League Swimming & Diving Invitational Championship meet with a final score of 136 points, outscoring Geneva, Pal-Mac, Marcus Whitman, Midlakes & Newark. This is the second year in a row the team has brought the trophy home to Gananda. Along with Trish Brewer from Geneva, Dani Richards was named Finger Lakes League Coach of the Year for the third year in a row.

 

With Sectionals around the corner, we know there will be even more wins in the pool and wish the entire team “good luck” as they enter the postseason!
